The Māori Vascular Risk Assessment program in Marlborough improves access to a free heart health check for:
- Māori and Pacific men aged 35-64 years and
- Māori and Pacific women aged 45-64 years
The VRA program runs to November 2012 and adopts a partnership approach between Te Hauora O Ngāti Rārua, Te Rapuora O Te Waiharakeke, Kimi Hauora Wairau Marlborough PHO, General practice, Māori and Pacific communities to ensure:
- Enrolled Māori and Pacific people who have not accessed a free heart health check in General Practice
- Māori and Pacific people who are eligible but do not have a GP, have a free heart health check and enrolled in a General Practice
Assessments will be provided at a venue of whanau/fanau choice, a health plan developed and those with a cardiovascular risk greater than 15% will be referred to their GP and other lifestyle programs of their choice.
